Watch out for the Community Connections Day for 2016

Community Connections Day 2015.

November's Community Connections day was a great success with over 100 people from across the Community Living whanau in attendance. It was great to see such an awesome mix of staff, people we support, their whanau, partner organisations and community members present.

Facilitated by Felicity Beadle from Bullzeye, the event was hosted in a cafe style format with guests able to move freely between the various workshops on offer. The Speakers corner proved a great podium for both staff and people we support to share their success stories and it was great to hear some really thought provoking discussions from the ideas corner.

There was an opportunity to purchase some of the wonderful wares of the people we support - they had a very successful afternoon's business as the stalls were constantly busy!

The Community Living kapahaka group opened and closed the event with really touching and inspirational performances and combined with the waiata workshop really served to add a sense of mana.

Kapahaka.

Community Living's kapahaka group opened and closed the event with moving performances and beautiful waiatas. Lead by our support worker Jason Brown, our people show-cased mana and a pride in our Maori culture.

KORERO.

The Speakers Corner and Ideas Corner offered both People we support, whanau/families and staff to voice their opinions and new ideas on a large variety of topics. To voice something aloud is an empowering process. The support and encouragement shown to those speaking was lovely to witness.

ACTIVITIES AND SHARING.

The day hosted a number of activities for people to get involved and be inspired. Stalls were set up selling peoples wares, this was a huge success as the stalls were embraced by all who attended the event. There was also a waiata workshop that people could participate in. As well as our speakers corner.  All in all a positive environment aimed to encourage, inspire and share!
